Dental Implant Care From First Exam to Final Tooth

Implant Dentures

Regular dentures rest on the gums, which is why they slip, rub, and call for adhesive. Implant dentures attach to posts in the jaw instead, so the denture has something solid to hold onto. If you plan meals around what your denture can handle, this is the option to ask about. Not every jaw can hold the posts, and Dr. Ames checks that first.

Implant Bridge

Missing three or four teeth in a row doesn't always mean three or four implants. An implant bridge spans the gap with a row of joined teeth held by posts at the ends. Nothing clips in or comes out at night, and the natural teeth nearby aren't used as anchors. It's often discussed when the space is too wide for a single replacement tooth.

Dental Implant Surgery

This is the visit most people dread, and it's usually calmer than they pictured. Dental implant surgery is when the post is placed in the jaw. The area is numbed first, and Dr. Ames tells you what he's doing as he goes, so nothing comes as a shock. Some soreness afterward is normal. You'll leave knowing what to expect that week and who to call with a question.

Single Tooth Implant

Lost one tooth to a crack, a failed root canal, or an old extraction? A single tooth implant fills that one space and leaves the teeth beside it alone. A bridge has to lean on its neighbors. This doesn't. The new tooth is shaded and shaped to sit in line with the rest, and the aim is that nobody picks it out, including you.

Implant Crowns & Restorations

The post does the holding. The crown is what everyone sees. Implant crowns and restorations cover the visible tooth that attaches once the post has healed, and this is where our cosmetic dentistry work comes in. Shade, shape, and how the tooth meets the ones above or below are all matched to your mouth, so it sits in your smile like it belongs there.

Affordable Dental Implants

An implant has several parts and stages: the post, the connector, the tooth, and sometimes grafting. A quote that covers only one of them isn't much use. Our approach to affordable dental implants starts with one number for the whole job, shown to you up front. Then you can compare it fairly, plan for it, or decide now isn't the time.

Dental Implants

Dental implants replace a missing tooth from the root up. A small post is set in the jaw, the bone heals around it, and a custom tooth is attached on top with a connector called an abutment. Because the post is anchored in bone, the tooth stays put when you eat, talk, and laugh. Implants can replace one tooth, hold a bridge, or steady a denture, so the first job is working out which fits your mouth.

Dental Implant Repair

A loose feeling, a chipped crown, or a sore gum around the post are all worth a look sooner than later. Dental implant repair starts with finding the cause, since a loose crown and a loose post are very different problems. Sometimes it's a small screw that needs tightening. Sometimes it's more. Dr. Ames will tell you which one you're dealing with.

Dental Bone Grafting for Implants

Bone is what holds an implant in place. After a tooth has been missing for a while, the jaw in that spot often thins out. Dental bone grafting for implants adds grafting material there to build the area back up. It adds a stage to the plan, and that's worth knowing early. X-rays show whether your jaw calls for it or whether you can skip it.

Get Started with a Dental Implant Consultation

Most people walk in with the same three questions. Will it hurt? How long will it take? Can I even get one? The dental implant consultation is where those get answered. Dr. Ames examines your mouth, takes any X-rays he needs, and walks you through the steps and the timeline. If implants aren't the right route, he'll say so and show you what is.

FAQs

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are small posts set in the jaw to hold a replacement tooth. The post acts like a tooth root, and a custom tooth is attached on top once the bone has healed around it. Implants can replace one tooth, several teeth, or help steady a denture.

How much are dental implants?

Our office prices dental implants by how many teeth are replaced and whether bone grafting is involved. Dr. Ames examines your mouth first, then gives you one figure that covers every stage, from the post to the final tooth. You'll have it before any work starts.

Does dental insurance cover implants?

Dental insurance covers part of implant treatment under some plans and none of it under many others. Queens Central Dental works with PPO plans from Delta Dental, MetLife, Aetna, Cigna, Guardian, and others, and we check your plan with you before you commit. Call with your insurance details and we'll go over it together.

Do dental implants hurt?

Implant surgery is done with anesthesia, which numbs the area before the work begins. Some soreness in the days after is common, and it varies from person to person. Dr. Ames goes over what to expect beforehand, so you aren't left guessing.

How long do dental implants last?

How long a dental implant lasts depends on your health, your habits, and how well you care for it. The crown on top can wear and may need replacing over time. An exam, and regular checkups afterward, give a clearer picture for your own mouth.

How long does a dental implant procedure take?

A dental implant is done in stages, so it takes longer than one visit. The post is placed first, the bone needs time to heal, and the tooth is attached after that. Bone grafting adds time. Dr. Ames gives you a timeline at the consultation.

Can a general dentist do dental implants?

Yes, a general dentist can place and restore dental implants, and other kinds of dental providers place them too. Dr. Ilya Ames is a general dentist who places the post and fits the tooth himself. If a case is beyond what he does, he'll tell you so.

Are dental implants worth it?

Whether dental implants are worth it depends on your mouth, your budget, and what you want from a replacement tooth. An implant isn't the answer for everyone, which is why we lay it out beside bridges and dentures. Dr. Ames will tell you honestly which option he'd lean toward and why.
