Emergency Dental Care for Pain, Breaks, and Lost Crowns

Emergency Root Canal
Root canals have a scary reputation. An emergency root canal treats the deep, throbbing ache of an infected tooth by cleaning out the nerve and sealing the tooth. The point is to keep your natural tooth instead of pulling it. Anesthesia comes first, and the fear is usually bigger than the visit itself. Everyone's different, so Dr. Ames checks in with you along the way.

Emergency Crown Repair & Replacement
A crown can come loose on a piece of caramel or for no clear reason at all. Either way, the tooth underneath is left exposed and often sensitive. With emergency crown repair and replacement, we re-cement the crown when it's still in good shape and make a new one when it isn't. If yours came off in one piece, bring it along. Dr. Ames looks over the tooth underneath before anything goes back on.

Broken, Cracked & Chipped Tooth Repair
A popcorn kernel, a fall, a fork at the wrong angle. Teeth break in ordinary ways. Broken, cracked, and chipped tooth repair runs from smoothing or bonding a small chip to placing a crown over a deep crack. Which one fits depends on how far the damage goes, and an exam shows that. If it's a front tooth, our cosmetic dentistry work means the repair is shaded to blend with the teeth beside it.

Emergency Tooth Extraction
Nobody wants to lose a tooth, and pulling one is never the first idea here. An emergency tooth extraction is for a tooth too damaged or infected to save. The tooth comes out, and you go home with clear instructions for the days ahead. Once the area has healed, Dr. Ames can walk you through ways to fill the space, such as a bridge or an implant.

Emergency Dentist
Not sure if it counts as an emergency? Most people aren't. Severe pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or a crown that came off are all reasons people call us. As your emergency dentist, Dr. Ames starts by finding the cause, because the same ache can come from very different problems. Then he tells you what he found in plain words, with no rush to decide on the spot.

Same-Day Dentist
Some problems can't sit until next week. If you're looking for a same-day dentist, the smart move is to call as soon as we open, since the morning is when the day's schedule has the most room. We fit urgent visits into the day whenever the schedule allows. And if today is truly full, we'll say so and give you the soonest time we have.

FAQs
A dental emergency is generally severe tooth pain, swelling, bleeding, or a broken tooth that needs attention soon. A chipped tooth or a lost filling may be less urgent, but it's still worth a call to a dentist. Not sure where yours falls? Call and describe it.
Yes, you can go to an emergency room for dental pain, and ER teams can give medicine for pain and infection. They generally don't do fillings, crowns, or other dental repairs, so a dentist still has to treat the cause of the pain afterward.
We base the cost of an emergency visit on what the exam finds and which treatment the tooth calls for. Dr. Ames checks the tooth first and gives you the price along with your choices. Nothing is started until you've agreed to it.
Queens Central Dental works with PPO dental plans for emergency visits, including Delta Dental, MetLife, Aetna, Cigna, and Guardian. What a plan pays depends on the plan and the treatment. Keep your insurance card nearby when you call and we'll look into it with you.
Yes, our office takes emergency appointments by phone, and new patients are welcome to call. Having a regular dentist somewhere else doesn't stop you from being seen here for an urgent problem. Afterward, you can go back to your own dentist or stay with Dr. Ames.
Saturday is the one weekend day our Jackson Heights office is open for emergency dental visits, from 9 AM to 3 PM. We're closed on Sundays. For a problem that starts on a Sunday, call first thing Monday morning, when the office opens at 10 AM.
