Tooth-Colored Fillings in Jackson Heights With No Dark Spot

What Tooth-Colored Fillings Are Made Of

Tooth-colored fillings at Queens Central Dental use composite resin, a mix of resin and fine glass or quartz, shaded to match your tooth. They contain no mercury.

After the area is numbed, decay is cleared out and the composite is packed into the space. A curing light, a blue dental lamp, hardens it, then Dr. Ames polishes the surface and checks your bite. No lab or temporary is needed.

Should Old Silver Fillings Be Replaced?

Two groups usually come in for tooth-colored fillings, people with a new cavity and people whose old silver fillings have cracked or have decay underneath. Some just dislike the dark color.

A common worry is being told every old filling has to go. The FDA doesn’t recommend removing an amalgam filling that’s in good condition with no decay underneath, so those can usually stay. Worn or cracked ones are different.

Placed and Bite-Checked by Dr. Ilya Ames

Queens Central Dental is owner-run, so the dentist filling your tooth is Dr. Ilya Ames, with more than 20 years in practice. His residency was at Queens Hospital Center. Tooth-colored work like this is part of his focus on cosmetic dentistry.

Before you leave, he checks your bite, since a filling that sits even slightly high can make the tooth sore when you chew. That’s a quick adjustment if needed.

How Long a Filling Takes, and Why Sooner Is Easier

At our Jackson Heights office, a tooth-colored filling is usually finished in one appointment, numbing included. Dental insurance often pays part of a filling, and our team checks what your plan covers before we start. You’ll know your share first.

A cavity caught early is the simplest to fix, while one left alone can reach the nerve and need a root canal. Earlier often means less chair time.

Tooth-Colored Fillings for Astoria and Jackson Heights

Our office in Jackson Heights places tooth-colored fillings for patients across roughly five miles of Queens, with Astoria included. That reaches Woodside and Sunnyside.

Shop along 30th Avenue or spend weekend mornings in Astoria Park? Then getting here is a short ride. Plus, with weekday hours until 6 PM and Saturdays until 3 PM, a filling can fit around a workday.

FAQs

What is a composite filling?

A composite filling is a tooth-colored filling made from resin mixed with fine glass or quartz particles. It can be used on front or back teeth and is shaded to match the tooth around it. Unlike a silver amalgam filling, it bonds directly to the tooth.

How long do composite fillings last?

Composite fillings don’t last forever, and the ADA notes they may need replacing more often than silver amalgam. In studies the ADA cites, most front-tooth composites and about four in five back-tooth composites were still in place after 10 years. Smaller fillings tend to last longer.

Does getting a filling hurt?

Getting a filling usually doesn’t hurt, because the tooth is numbed with local anesthesia first, and more can be given if you feel anything. Afterward, mild sensitivity and gum soreness are normal and should fade within a week or two. Pain that lingers or gets worse is worth a call.

Can you eat after a filling?

You can eat after a tooth-colored filling right away, since the curing light hardens it before you leave. It’s smart to wait until the numbness wears off, though, so you don’t bite your cheek or tongue. Chew gently on the other side at first if the tooth feels tender.

How much is a white filling without insurance?

We set the price of a white filling by its size and how many surfaces of the tooth it covers, so a small one costs less than one that wraps around several sides. Dr. Ames gives you the exact figure after he sees the tooth, before any work starts.

Does insurance cover tooth-colored fillings?

Our office checks your plan first, because coverage for tooth-colored fillings varies. Many plans pay for them on front teeth, but some pay only the silver-filling rate on back teeth, which the ADA calls an alternate benefit, leaving you the difference. We’ll show you your share before we start.
